Ingredients

2 cups All-purpose flour (sifted)
1 ¾ cups Granulated sugar
¾ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder (high-quality Dutch-processed)
2 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp Salt
1 cup Buttermilk (room temperature)
½ cup Vegetable oil
2 large Eggs (room temperature)
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 cup Hot coffee (brewed strong)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined
  5. Pour in the hot coffee and mix until the batter is smooth
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clea
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely
  8. Once cool, frost with your favorite frosting and serve
