Ingredients

Scale

1 cup All-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar
1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons Baking powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup Milk
1/4 cup Melted butter
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups Hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish
  2. Combine the flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, and stir until just combined
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly
  5. In another bowl, mix the remaining sugar and cocoa powder together
  6. Sprinkle the cocoa mixture over the batter without stirring
  7. Pour hot water gently over the cocoa layer; do not stir
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is set and bubbly underneath

Notes

Don't overmix the batter to prevent a tough texture.

Quality cocoa powder enhances flavor; use hot water for best results.

Thicker cobblers can be made in smaller dishes; don't overbake.
